This book 'Robinson Crusoe' by Daniel Defoe was owned by Dickens and contains the Charles Dickens bookplate, as well as a 'Gad's Hill Library' bookplate. It also has the bookplate of Doris Danby and an inscription from Charles Dickens's grandson, Henry C Dickens. Hardback book, black ink, illustrated.
This book was a favourite of Charles Dickens in his youth, and he probably read a cheap reprint version. He often referred to the story in his writings, most famously it is the favourite story of the young Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol. Because of the date of the book, there is a good chance he owned it when he lived at 48 Doughty Street.
