The present copy of this comprehensive and valuable collection of Italian Poets, belonged to Leigh Hunt, who has enriched some of the volumes, particularly Petrarca, Pulci, the Orlando Innamorato, Orlando Furioso, Tasso's Gerusalemme, Forteguerri's Ricciardetto, and some of the minor Poets, with Notes and Annotations. Those to Redi's 'Bacco in Toscana' (of which he afterwards produced a translation) are in Italian, and occupy 40 pages, under the title of 'Altre Annotazioni scelte dall' Autore per L. H.' '(In Surrey Jail).'

He thus pleasantly alludes to this work in his charming Autobiography: 'When in prison [for libel on the Prince Regent], I had bought the collection of Poetry called the Parnaso Italiano, a work in fifty-six duodecimo volumes, adorned with vignettes. The bookseller, by the way, charged me thirty pounds for it. But I thought it cheap; and joyfully got rid of my thirty pounds for such a southern treasure; which, I must own, has repaid me a million times over in the pleasure I have received from it, etc.'
