Many of these Trials are of the deepest historical and general interest. They are the stories from whence Sir Walter Scott drew many of his finest plots and most interesting scenes. The great Novelist was indeed the first to suggest their publication, and at one period had himself contemplated the work. 'These Records are the earliest, perhaps as well as the most remarkable, in this deparment, of which any country in Europe can now boast.'
