'My own private copy. J. P.' - 'Charles Dickens, from his friend, John Poole. May, 1862.'
This very clever and amusing work is made additionally interesting by the numerous manuscript Annotations of the Author, identifying many of the characters; besides other notices. It contains also Autograph Letters of G. Colman; Madame Gavaudan, the famous Actress; Mademoiselle Bigottini; H. Colburn, etc. In 'Notes for a Memoir', he gives a sketch of his own career. The name 'Snodgrass' (in Pickwick) was suggested by one of Poole's Cockney Sportsmen.
